About Our Department
The East Litchfield Volunteer
Fire Company has been in existence for over 50 years.
Our proud membership has spanned many generations. Many
of our members have lived in East Litchfield and were members
nearly since the departments inception.
Today, the face of our
department is changing. Our volunteers are not only
local residents, but residents of many of the adjoining
towns. We have varied backgrounds from mechanics,
accountants, carpenters and retirees.
We understand that any time our
volunteers can afford is important. We offer specialized
training that is tailored to each members level of
commitment. All of our firefighters undergo a yearly
health screening, Hazardous Materials Awareness training, as
well as CPR, each paid for by the department. Firefigher
I training is a requirement to enter a burning building.
Our members are sent to the Burrville Fire School for this
level of training, also paid for by our department. The
third and fourth Monday of each month, we have "Drill
Nights" were our members work with the fire equipment,
honing our skills and learning from each other. This
helps us be prepared when the calls come in.
We encourage you to consider
being a volunteer.
The highest reward for a person's work is
not what they get for it, but what they become because of it.
